‘Las Luces De Mi Vida’ is a 3-dimensional tapestry inspired by the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, specifically the stained glass windows on the Nativity and Passion façades. The left wall consists of cooler colours contrasting the right with warmer tones, presenting the center wall as blend of them all.
The artwork involves a layering made by a printmaking technique, screen printing. The portraits involve family and friends; people whom I feel grateful to have in my life. This links to the fundamental theme of connectivity and community. The presentation of combined faces reflects human experience through emotion. The approach to collage by repetitive figures of faces and eyes highlights the theme of identity. I wanted to emphasise how sometimes the eye is the window to the soul, inviting us to read the emotions of our loved ones. ‘Las Luces De Mi Vida’ is a visually-stimulating piece with a vivid colour palette reflecting energy and an ambience of euphoria. Observing the work evokes sensations of luminosity, dynamism and excitement. The overlapping use of materials, shapes and textures in a photographic and abstract essence aligns with traditional mixed media and pop art influence. The composition is thought-provoking and engaging for viewers, especially by the movement, light and emotional intensity created. Most importantly, the scene depicts diversity within my relationships, sparking curiosity and harmony in my life. When im surrounded by these walls I feel safe, like I a being hugged by my people, who are ‘The Lights Of My Life’.
