“Amplesso” (amplexus) is part of an ongoing cycle of textile works entitled “They are only my words”, which deals with issues related to the body. The work explores the idea of sexuality, often still a great taboo in contemporary society and in particular how women live the intercourse. The square shape of the canvas draws attention to the centre where the word “amplesso” is embroidered by the artist.
The distance between the letter ‘p’ and ‘l’ refers to the interrupted female coitus pointed out by the writer and activist Carla Lonzi, in her 1970 essay Sputiamo su Hegel: «If they reach orgasm or not, many females portray satisfaction from the observation that the husband or sexual partner enjoyed contact and from the observation that they have made the pleasure of the male.» (1)
