The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
A dramatisation of the forces that drive the apocalyptic events described in the Bible (in Revelation 6) :
" 1 I looked, and when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, I heard one of the four living creatures say, as with a voice of thunder, ‘Come.’ 2 I looked, and there appeared a white horse. The one riding it had a bow; a crown was given to him, and he went out as a conqueror and to conquer. 3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, ‘Come.’ 4 And another horse came out, a chestnut-coloured one. The rider was given the power to take peace from the earth, so that people would slaughter one another; and a great sword was given to him. 5 When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, ‘Come.’ I looked, and there appeared a black horse. The rider held a set of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice from among the four living creatures saying, ‘A measure of wheat for a denarius, and three measures of barley for a denarius; but do not harm the oil and the wine.’ 7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, ‘Come.’ 8 I looked, and there appeared a pale horse. The one riding it was called Death, and Hades accompanied him. Power was given to them over a quarter of the earth, to kill people by the sword, by famine, by pestilence, and by the wild beasts of the earth. "
Each horseman embodies an evolving power that overlaps with and responds to the others, creating a dialogue between the audience and the interpretation of the contemporary world.
