This work is the result of hours of gathering spent at the beach, and then hours to polish the seashells and to glue them all. This was a three months residency, so I wanted to make a work that the audience can feel it required a lot of time and energy to do and that this duration of residency was required to produce such artwork . For this creation I wanted to create something beautiful with the material found at Daedepo beach.
The fact is that there is a lot of thrashes on the beach sadly, a lot of polystyrene balls, but I wanted to highlight the beauty of this location more than anything. There was something very calm and relaxing about collecting all of these seashells and to be surrounded by all these people at the beach. The title “A new sun is rising”is another message of hope: I want the brightness and the shine of this artwork with light cast onto it to feel like a new sun slowly rising, and to remind the audience that there will always be a new tomorrow, that we must keep on looking for a bright future.
