Runaway Girl dance and choreography Jocelyne Montpetit
Photographic project from the perform and concept of the art piece.
Runaway Girl; will she allow us to return to our own past? Doors and mirrors through which we enter to find ourselves. The past is touched in her danced universe, meditative and introspective. Each minimal movement has its secret, warning of the inner necessity to return home and the reflection that follows. Her dance tirelessly seeks to break a spell that would allow us to unveil the guarded time, to envelop the memories of our childhood home. An ephemeral enchantment to not give in to oblivion, to deepen the instant of an abandoned house, where the creaking of wood becomes a compass with the background music, where humidity has transformed into brushstrokes and the torn carpet opens up today's axes of time. It is a permanent dialogue between the body and the architectural space that surrounds it, through a narrative around "memory" that makes palpable the force of our past, memory, and the fragility of losing it. Traits that allow us to stop and find answers about who we are and where we belong. They reflect the place from which we come to not get lost in the future, to return to our origins, to our own identity, and not lose the essence of our own existence. Jocelyne Montpetit's dance is a journey into the past, a bit alchemical, a bit mystical, and it is likely that we will find secrets of our own past in her work. Jocelyne Montpetit's work seems to be a deep exploration of memory and identity. The dancer invites us to return to our own past, to reconnect with our origins, and to find our essence. The description of the piece evokes a meditative and introspective universe, where each movement has a hidden meaning. The relationship between the body and the architectural space is also highlighted, creating a permanent dialogue between the dancer and her environment. This work seems to be a journey into the past, a quest for oneself and one's identity.
