Movimentazioni
An
attempt to represent the dynamics of action in motion.
The
project was born from a photo I took from Porto Ercole to Porto Santo
Stefano in 2004. This photo has always fascinated me, but it remained
tucked away in a drawer for a long time, so much so that I had
forgotten I had even taken it. Upon rediscovering it, I decided to
resume exploring this concept. Movement and its representation have
always been central themes in my work, along with the desire to
explore them, especially when I am traveling or in motion—after
all, almost all of my photographic work stems from the movements and
journeys I undertake. The Movements series,
in particular, is the visual representation that most closely aligns
with my perception of space and time.
I
often seek validation for my thoughts in the words and writings of
authors who, through their words, can express what I strive to convey
through images. Among the quotes that resonate with my way of seeing,
there is one by Italo Calvino: "The eye does not see things but
images of things that mean other things," and a reflection by
Merleau-Ponty, who in Phenomenology
of Perception states,
"Our perceptual field is made up of 'things' and 'voids between
things'... at first, I see as things the ensembles that I have never
seen move: houses, the sun, mountains... If we began to see the
intervals between things as things, the appearance of the world...
would change noticeably." I could continue with other quotes,
but it would just be a list; certainly, I carry all these concepts
with me, and when I take a photo, I find them all represented,
reinforcing their meaning for me. Everything moves, even when the
objects around us are still, their images on the retina move because
our heads and eyes are never entirely still. The pinhole camera, like
an eye, is a formidable friend in capturing that movement that we
often cannot or are unable to perceive. The project is a work in
progress that evolves and that, over the years, I have sought to
deepen, in an attempt to express my point of view.

tentativo di rappresentare l'andamento dell'agire nello
spostamento.
Il
progetto nasce dalla foto da porto Ercole a porto Santo Stefano che
ho scattato nel 2004. La foto mi ha sempre affascinato, ma è rimasta
nel cassetto per parecchio tempo, tanto che avevo dimenticato di
averla scattata. Rivedendola ho deciso di riprendere il discorso. Il
movimento e la sua rappresentazione sono tematiche che mi
accompagnano da sempre, e con esse la voglia di esplorarle
soprattutto quando sono in viaggio/in movimento – del resto quasi
tutto il lavoro fotografico scaturisce dal movimento e dai viaggi che
faccio. La serie Movimentazioni è, in particolare, la
rappresentazione visiva che più si avvicina alla mia percezione di
spazio e tempo. Spesso cerco riscontro dei miei ragionamenti in
parole e scritti di autori che attraverso le parole riescono ad
esprimere ciò che io cerco di trasmettere con le immagini. Tra le
citazioni che si avvicinano al mio modo di vedere, ce n'è una di
Italo Calvino: «L'occhio non vede cose ma figure di cose che
significano altre cose», e una riflessione di Mer leau-Ponty che,
nella Fenomenologia della percezione , ci dice «Il nostro campo
percettivo è fatto di “cose” e “vuoti tra le cose”...
dapprima vedo come cose degli insiemi che non ho mai visto muoversi:
delle case, il sole, dei monti ... Se ci mettessimo a vedere come
cose gli intervalli fra le cose, l'aspetto del mondo ... muterebbe
sensibilmente». Potrei andare avanti con altre citazioni ma sarebbe
solo un elenco, di certo porto tutti questi concetti con me e quando
scatto una foto li ritrovo tutti rappresentati e me ne rafforzano il
significato. Tutto si muove, anche quando gli oggetti attorno a noi
sono immobili, le loro immagini sulla retina si muovono, perché la
testa e gli occhi non sono mai interamente fermi. Il foro stenopeico
come occhio è un formidabile amico nel sorprendere quel movimento
che spesso noi non riusciamo o non siamo capaci di cogliere. Il
progetto è un work in progress che si evolve e che nel corso degli
anni ho cercato di approfondire, per cercare di esprimere il mio
punto di vista.
