A night planting disclosed in fragments, the dark holding most of the frame, a low artificial light picking out two zones. Across the upper band, feathery green fronds hang in a lacy mass, lit cool and even. At the left margin a tree trunk descends as a narrow column, its fissured bark caught in a warmer, dimmer glow. The lower right gathers the only color: a cluster of canna lilies, their scarlet blooms ruffled, a few spent, among broad leaves that turn from pale to near-black as the light falls away. Between these lit islands the composition opens into unbroken black, no depth offered, the subjects held apart by darkness, not distance. The palette runs cool green above to warm scarlet below, no register between. A vignette closes the corners. Shot in available light. Printed on fine art paper with archival pigment inks. No compositing. The testimony reached only what the light did; the dark was never sworn.
