A triptych of icons of the Sacred Vulva is displayed behind a sheet of Plexiglas.
The audience is invited to participate actively, with felt-tip pens and paint provided to deface the artwork. A poster bearing violent slogans is placed near the installation to encourage those who find it difficult to carry out an act of violence. Experiencing a violent, angry outburst directed at such a powerful symbol as the Sacred Vulva – even when guided and protected by a sheet of Plexiglas – requires an act of courage. The aim of the performance is to help us understand those who perpetrate violence, and the indelible mark it leaves on those who suffer it. Because violence can only be combated by realising that none of us is immune to it.
