After graduating from Art School and obtaining a degree in Painting, Gioia Raparelli graduated in Film Directing and Film Editing. Film-maker of documentaries and short films, with a professional background ranging from painting to video-art, from artistic and anthropological documentaries to fiction. She has been involved in the Sacred Vulva project for years. The idea came about after seeing Eve Ensler's ‘The Vagine Monologues’. In order to bestow the value of sacredness on the Vulva, once venerated in shrines dedicated to Mother Earth, she decided to use the ancient art of sacred Byzantine icons to tell universal stories and actualise them with modern means.
