Set portrait done in lockdown
ZERO SUM I CONTACT: BEFORE THE SUN WAS EVEN UP, THE MOON ITS REFLECTION THOUGHT TO HOLD, AND THE EARLY BIRD THAT CATCHES CAUGHT AN EAST WIND BLOWING COLD. THEN THE TURNING OF THE WORM STOPPED THE WINDING OF THE WORLD, AND A WOMAN TOOK A PICTURE OF A FRIGHTENED LITTLE GIRL. SO WHEN IN PLACE OF LOST PIECE, AND A FRACTURE WE FIND; IN LIEU OF FIRM FRAME, SEEK A FIRM FRAME OF MIND.
It’s called ‘ZERO SUM I CONTACT’ because even thought I am looking at myself in my phone standing in front of a reflection of myself, looking at my phone, at no point in time am I, or the viewer actually seeing myself, or anything but the back of my head. No matter how long we are sequestered with ourselves we never truly see ourselves just imagine us in the scenes of stories we tell ourselves about ourselves.
BEFORE THE SUN WAS EVEN UP: in the end of winter, before the spring
THE MOON ITS REFLECTION THOUGHT TO HOLD: time and emotions cant stand still
AND THE EARLY BIRD THAT CATCHES CAUGHT AN EAST WIND BLOWING COLD: one magpie stands for sorrow. Reference to the term “catch a cold” from the east
THEN THE TURNING OF THE WORM STOPPED THE WINDING OF THE WORLD: the phrase the turning of the worm refers to a group of people who have been treated badly rising up
AND A WOMAN TOOK A PICTURE OF A FRIGHTENED LITTLE GIRL
SO WHEN IN PLACE OF LOST PIECE, AND A FRACTURE WE FIND: piece/peace that is missing because of a break
IN LIEU OF FIRM FRAME: the sleeve and arm goes over the edge of the moon landscape frame, confusing the viewer as to what is a reflective surface and what’s not
