"Threshold" marks the tenth movement in a sixteen-painting arc tracing the full circuit of a human life. By this point in the journey, the primal forces of fire and ocean have been trading dominance for a long time. Here, the fire is winning, pushing the composition to a volatile limit where sheer willpower alone can no longer hold the tension.
Visually, this breaking point is caught in the friction between the heavy, branching black channels and the heat beneath them. In the center of this collision, the intense magenta fractures and softens into a vulnerable pink. This color shift represents a psychological shift: the transition into acceptance rather than more forced effort, a radical letting go that exists completely beyond ego and human will.
The work deliberately avoids a clean resolution. The burning oranges and reds are heavily pressured by the gathering weight of the deep blues and greens closing in from the top right. It holds the viewer in that exact, breathless space of suspension, the moment where the old strategies have burned out, and something greater must finally be trusted to take over.
