The Runners is an ode to wilderness. As more and more wild animals are being domesticated, made as pets, I wanted to show the beauty, the energy of their wilder, untamed side. As a horse lover, the horse was my first choice, especially since wild horses are disappearing... Hopefully this will become the first piece of a series celebrating bold wilderness, and creating a conversation around the preservation of wild animals.
For the style, I decided to draw inspiration on the portuguese azulejos to give the subjects some "nobility". So I decided to use a single colour, blue (like the azulejos) which also gives it some intensity, and create a ornamented and floral frame.
The drawing spreads on 8 separate pieces of paper, that are to be assembled as tiles (like the azulejos) to create the whole piece.
