“The Karkadann” explores the relationship between mythology, memory, and cultural identity through a contemporary visual language.
Inspired by Persian mythology, the painting centers on the Karkadann, a legendary creature often described as the Persian unicorn. Rather than illustrating an ancient legend, the work reimagines the Karkadann as a symbolic presence that connects past and present, imagination and reality.
The painting also draws visual inspiration from Persepolis and the cultural heritage of ancient Persia. Architectural elements reference the enduring presence of history, memory, and cultural identity. Combined with carousel forms, they create a dialogue between personal memory and collective history.
The carousel serves as a metaphor for repetition, movement, and the cyclical nature of human experience. Within this setting, the Karkadann becomes a carrier of cultural memory, embodying the connection between mythology, heritage, and contemporary identity.
Through the encounter of mythological, architectural, and symbolic forms, the work reflects on themes of belonging, transformation, and the dialogue between Iranian cultural heritage and modern life. It invites viewers to enter a space where myth, memory, and identity continuously intersect.
