Ali Sedri
(b. 1985, Bonn, Germany. Lives and works in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.)
Ali Sedri is a contemporary painter whose work bridges Persian cultural heritage and contemporary European painting. Drawing upon Persian mythology, symbolism, and collective memory, he creates poetic visual worlds where myth and reality, past and present, continuously intersect.
Born in Bonn to an Iranian family, Sedri was raised between two cultures. He studied painting in Isfahan before continuing his artistic education at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. A defining influence on his development was his mentorship under the renowned Iranian master Mahmoud Farshchian, whose emphasis on symbolism, movement, and spiritual storytelling continues to resonate throughout Sedri’s work.
Inspired by the rich visual language of Persian art, literature, and mythology, Sedri reinterprets ancient symbols through a contemporary lens. Mythical creatures, carousel animals, and dreamlike figures become metaphors for memory, transformation, freedom, and the cyclical nature of human existence. Rather than illustrating stories, his paintings invite viewers into symbolic landscapes where emotion and imagination take precedence over narrative.
Through luminous color fields, expressive brushwork, and layered compositions, Sedri creates works that oscillate between emotional intensity and contemplative stillness. His paintings combine the decorative richness of Persian artistic traditions with a distinctly contemporary painterly language, resulting in a visual universe that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
His work has been exhibited in galleries in Iran and Germany, including Zaviyeh Art Gallery in Tehran and Kowsar Art Gallery in Isfahan. Today, Sedri continues to develop a distinctive body of work in which Persian mythology, cultural memory, and contemporary painting converge into a unique symbolic language.
