The environment that surrounds me has always been intrinsic to the
creation of my work. I am particularly inspired by the traditional, ancient
‘Indian Miniature’, traditional Nepali Thangka painting and Joseph Cornell’s
Shadow Boxes. A farrago of Thoughts is a synthesis of Eastern and Western
cultures. Bricks play a significant role in my works because I believe that
each brick tells the story of survival. The double roof house with the well
known British Accrington bricks (red in color) depicts the English house
whereas Nepali architecture features the famous Nepali brown bricks with
overly decorated roofs. In Nepal, it is very common to see four-sided houses
between which there is often a small garden where people gather. There are
some symmetrically mirrored elements in this work, for instance, the two
parrots. Parrots are depicted as truth-tellers and are often found in ’Mughal
Miniature Art’. I particularly wanted to include them in this work.
