I replaced a classical canvas with an aluminium plate as a base for my print-paintings to uncover the broader and deeper range of possibilities of processing the material in a more extensive range of reflections on passing of time, seeking the inner harmony and restlessness, intermingling of present and past. It is my effort to break free from any rules or barriers.
Using aluminum plate as a base with its surface treatment, adds depth to the painting, brings light inside, creates optical illusion, reflection, resembles another dimension and luminosity. The aluminium plate is sanded, scratched, drilled, buffed and stamped with various tools. Rough, gestural brushstrokes depict today´s chaotic world, putting it into contrast with the outlined images of hands that stand for harmony and peace, referring to the search for the unity of body and soul typical of the art of Antiquity and Renaissance.
Apart from abstract and painterly elements, a basic scheme of the work is also created by silver, continuously interconnecting motifs drilled into the aluminium plate, mostly circles standing for the passing of life, or rotating lines running through a considerable part of the picture surface. The production of these works is technically (as well as physically) very demanding; due to a precise treatment. It is interesting that these almost microscopic details of aluminium structures look like a living organism. The more extensive the shapes are, the stronger the dynamics of the picture is.
To create many spaces in different depths as well as a visible 3D relief effect of the work is enhanced by using various attached aluminium elements.
The printed images of hands emerging from the surface are located in the immediate proximity to the viewer as well as on attached smaller size aluminium square plates floating above the surface of the work. They are the anchors in chaos and instability and represent a gateway to the picture. They also symbolise the belief in man and the reflection of our period.
In my works on aluminium plate one can find many distinctive opposites in terms of both ideas and artistic means of expression: chaos ↔ harmony, the beginning ↔ the end, abstract painting ↔ realistic details of a human body parts. It wants to be an invitation to artists to experiment with the use of aluminium, to put themselves to the test, and thus to experience this metal.
