This work is inspired by the symbolism of the solstice, a moment of transition in which darkness reaches its deepest point and gradually gives way to the rebirth of light. The painting begins from a profound and dark dimension, where deep marks emerge like primordial traces, memories of the earth and of the invisible roots of existence.
From this darkness, increasingly lighter signs begin to emerge, creating an ascending movement that narrates the slow awakening of light. The painterly gesture becomes a process of growth: what originates from darkness opens toward a new luminous dimension, like a tree that anchors its roots deep within the earth while reaching its branches toward the sky.
The tree becomes a symbol of the balance between opposing yet complementary forces of nature: darkness and light, matter and spirit, rootedness and expansion. The dark roots preserve memory and depth, while the luminous branches represent the desire for elevation, hope, and the continuous renewal of life.
The solstice thus becomes a metaphor for an inner journey: every period of darkness already contains the beginning of a new light. Painting becomes a place of transformation, where the mark turns into energy and matter reveals the eternal rhythm of becoming.
