"It's hot and humid on the road today. We arrive at Roy's Station, a mecca for photographers and painters of western US history. Our road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles through Death Valley and the great parks has filled the sketchbooks. This station has been photographed a thousand times by great artists. The composition enhances the deep blue sky, the details of the bottom of the canvas capture the attention by reflections in the puddles. The desert can sometimes be the scene of violent storms. We arrive just after the downpour and enjoy vinegar chips and slices of beef jerky."
Sketches and stencils made on the spot, paintings made back at the studio from notebooks and notes. The style mixes figurative representation and illustration. Fine oils and natural pigments on canvas prepared with white gesso. Protection by satin varnish to be realized. Signature by monogram, possible dedication on the back of the canvas.
