I have always loved fabric. The textures and colors as well as the personal history they carry. The potential for expressing myself with those materials has always intrigued me. This connection with fabric led to a career in print design and accessories which has aligned well with my experience painting.
My career in design deepened my appreciation and understanding of the materials that I now use in my painting. My latest approach to all subject matter encompasses the same immediacy I apply to plein-air paintings, combining my love and understanding of texture, with translucent stains and thick textures to capture the essence of a moment, sometimes wiping away some of the work and leaving a delicate memory. This mixture of materials, layering, and collaged segments creates a rich surface texture with an echo that brings depth and narrative history to the final painting.
