Drawing inspiration from the Pronk Still Life genre of Dutch Golden Age, my current series of works serve as contemporary reinterpretations to retell these narratives from a feminist perspective. Through symbolism, I use flowers as metaphor of beauty, delicacy, lust, and desire. In my painting process I borrow various elements, from Old Masters of Still Life, to contemporary literature. I tend to arrange found objects and flowers in my studio and paint them from real-life observation. The tittle of this artwork 'Out of the Night We Come, Into the Night We Go' was borrowed from an imaginary painting described by Angela Carter in her fiction stories.
