In quotidian life, we frequently encounter flora whose taxonomic identities remain unknown to us. Yet this epistemological gap does not preclude their ontological assertion of vitality. I often discern in these plants a mirror of my own existential trajectory: these unnamed botanicals endure the full cycle of seasons, weathering atmospheric vicissitudes, only to wither inevitably with winter’s onset. Is not the human condition analogously circumscribed? From birth to death, we similarly navigate a spectrum of adversities before our eventual interment within the loess. The series Unnamed Flowers thus operates as both a phenomenological documentation of these plants’ modes of existence and a metaphorical projection onto the individual life-course itself.
