My name is Shouhui Lu, born in 1990 in China. I am an independent artist. In 2009, I left high school and began teaching myself painting. Over more than a decade of artistic practice, my work has consistently revolved around the various transformations of human life within contemporary society. I use traditional Chinese Xuan paper as the core medium for my creations, incorporating materials such as ink, traditional Chinese painting pigments, and oil pastels to construct the imagery. Through the medium of Xuan paper, I aim to explore greater possibilities and broader expressions in painting.
My work was shortlisted for the 9th New Star Art Award in 2018, and for the 6th John Moores Painting Prize (China) in 2020. In 2025, I was selected for the "Constellation—Annual Emerging Artists" program by KUART. My works have been featured in publications such as the Spanish contemporary art magazine Al-Tiba9, the American Visual Art Journal, the Georgian 101 Contemporary Artists and more..., as well as Chinese Contemporary Art Documents, Chinese Visual Art Yearbook, and The Image of Chinese New Contemporary Art.
