A child leans towards us, fists clenched and mouth open. The pink clothing and orange hair contrast with a blue and turquoise background marked by paint drips. Facing us directly, the child’s gesture remains open to interpretation, somewhere between defiance, anger and a call to be heard. Cécilia Shishan explores the tensions of childhood, when the body expresses what is difficult to put into words. The figure asserts its presence, but its story remains open: each viewer may recognise an emotion, a memory or an act of resistance.
