Across a fragmented landscape of bold geometric blocks, fish symbols float freely in every direction, outlined in crimson, teal, yellow, white and brown, uncontained by any border or boundary. There are no predators here, no nets, no depth. Just fish, moving through a world that feels more like a city, a market, a celebration than an ocean.
Kobina Nyarko steps away from the sea in this work and asks a different question, what does marine life look like when it enters the human world?
The fish here are icons, almost graffiti-like in their looseness, scattered across overlapping planes of orange, blue, grey and gold. It is a painting about abundance, coexistence and the next generation of life finding its way through a complex, colourful world.
