This painting is based upon my memory of visiting the mysterious Kailasha temple in Ellora, India. Rediscovered by chance in the 1900s after being lost for about 800 years, the experience of being there is enticing; the work is an exploration of the idea that such marvels of the past are inseparable from the current era, as the temple shows. It exists today as a testament to its history, and the stone holds stories and memories that, as tourists and guests, we can only imagine. It speaks about revealing the unseen, presenting a narrative that invites viewers to question what they assume and delve deeper into the ancient wisdom that is resonated by the temple. It represents the immense depth and beauty of Indian culture that is mostly overlooked today.
