I am Pakhee Jha, an artist from Mumbai. Born in 2000, I took no time to discover my affinity to art, specifically figuration. Painting being my predominant medium, I explore narratives through the human form and, if relevant, motifs. From a young age, I found inspiration in stories I heard and saw, as well as from a keen observation of the people around me. Yoga, classicalism, culture and ‘storytelling’ have become the drive in my work. Always being involved with Indian imagery and folklore, I have seen this as a constant theme which has now flowered into a general appreciation of the past.
Narrative building in my work is usually inspired by places I loves or people in fascinating moments, and I try to capture them through their characterization. Though these are not always relatable to a wide range of viewers, I hope that my audiences enjoy the experience that the artwork brings to them regardless of any subjective information with which they are viewed. Aiming to create visuals that are curiously or playfully inviting to others, I choose instances of people and places that reveal what may have been unseen, and are personally intriguing to me.
My love for art has led me to several opportunities, of which some are the RBA Rising Star Awards 2021 as a semi-finalist, and the international organization Artisstry’s 2018 Jaipur exhibition. Following are a group exhibition at One Thoresby Street, Nottingham and an online exhibition with the Bangya Kala Kendra organization.
