“Introduction” refers to the beginning of a story, the opening resonance of music, and the moment of stepping into a new world.
In this work, I used highly translucent tinted urushi across the entire surface. Unlike conventional pigmented urushi, this rare material allows color to permeate rather than settle on the surface, creating subtle layers of depth within the support itself.
The blue expanse—evoking the depth of the ocean or outer space—became the starting point of my dialogue with this material.
Rather than presenting a fixed image, the work explores the moment before form fully emerges: a quiet threshold where color, material, and perception begin to resonate.
As an introduction, the work invites viewers into a space of possibility—an open field where boundaries between surface and depth, image and material, remain undefined.
The orientation of the work remains open and may be determined in relation to the exhibition space.
