In traditional Chinese beliefs, heaven is round and the earth is square. Also based on traditional Chinese culture, blue colour represents heaven; while yellow represents the earth.
For the heaven part, the artist used different sharp colours against the blue background that brings about big contrast effect. It is the artist's intention that the audience will feel uncomfortable if watching the heaven part for too long. The artist intended to induce the audience to create a sense of respect towards the heaven, to which Chinese cultures attach importance.
Taking reference from Sean Cully's famous abstract "Grid" paintings, the artist used a similar style to depict the earth with intent to evoke peaceful emotion.
