WINNING THE ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE 2024 HAS BROUGHT ME TO GHANA, WHERE I AM NOW PAINTING IN ACCRA, IMMERSED IN THE VIBRANT LIFE OF AFRICA. AS I STROLL THROUGH THE VILLAGES, I AM CAPTIVATED BY THE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN THEIR BRIGHT, COLORFUL AFRICAN DRESSES, WALKING PROUDLY WITH BASKETS FULL OF FRUIT, FISH, AND OTHER GOODS TO SELL. CHICKENS, HENS, AND GOATS ROAM FREELY, RETURNING TO THEIR HOMES AS EVENING FALLS. MEN AND WOMEN WASH IN BUCKETS OUTSIDE THEIR HOMES, WHILE WASHING LINES DRAPED WITH SPARKLING CLEAN LAUNDRY FLUTTER IN THE BREEZE. CHILDREN PLAY JOYFULLY IN THE STREETS OR REST PEACEFULLY ON THEIR MOTHERS' BACKS.
IN MY PAINTINGS, I STRIVE TO CAPTURE THE ESSENCE OF WHAT I SEE AND FEEL AROUND ME.
CAN YOU SENSE THE WARMTH, JOY, AND VIBRANCY OF AFRICA?
