GEOTátil is a variation of the 'Terras Raras' Series
'Terras Raras' by Annike Limborço, is a series of works that intricately weave together the organic and the geometric, the tangible and the intangible, through the ancestral materiality of raw clay.
The artist explores the relationship between space, time, and matter, delving into the visual and tactile expressions of the mineral world. The primary material — ionic clay — is sourced from natural deposits in the volcanic region of Poços de Caldas, in southeastern Brazil. This landscape, layered with geological memory and ancestral energy, infuses the work with symbolic and spiritual density. The use of clay is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a gesture of reverence for the Earth’s formation and the invisible force of time.
Texture and relief are the pillars of this series, evoking both the raw power of geological forces and the subtle rhythms of organic cycles. The undulating forms and marked carved on the clay’s surface reference the Earth’s inner movements — its pulsations, convulsions, and renewals. Each mark holds the trace of impermanence, the passage of time, and the ever-changing nature of life.
The creation process begins with raw clay and is carefully developed to preserve its color, texture, and mineral memory. When blended with natural and repurposed materials, the clay gains malleability while maintaining its visual integrity. Light plays a vital role in the work: as it strikes the curved surfaces, it reveals depth, shadows, and undertones, animating the piece in a continuous interplay of reflections and sensations.
Terras Raras is an invitation to contemplate ancestry, transformation, and the beauty that resides in imperfection. It is a gesture of reverence for nature in constant motion — and for our own transience as human beings.
