The
characters in this work resemble the “re-imagined ancestors” recovered from a
family album. Crisis, war, refugees, international terrorism and climate
problems cause anxiety, insecurity and feelings of fear about the future. The
child on her lap did not survive meningitis. With a red balloon that rises in
the darkness of the “uncertain”, it raises the balloon as if holding the banner
of life and love. The backdrop is war, the endless wars of human history. She's
the only one who doesn't look at us, her face “fades” from the screen. But
there's also a less somber brushstroke here: a sense that above the fear and
insecurity that the world brings us, four female figures look us in the face
and smile, as if watching us. These 4 generations represented here survived the
1st and 2nd World War and bore their fruits, unique women and guardians of
memories. The water that passes through their feet allows them to clean the
future, flowing in a dream of renewal.
