In Fuga, I seek to evoke the intensity of Baroque art, creating a space where tension and movement emerge from the interplay of light and matter.
I built the composition around a field of sinuous forms, interrupted by an opening, a deep, silent passage of light that introduces a moment of release and transition.
For me, the title refers both to this “escape” (fuga in Spanish and Italian) and to the musical form of the fugue, where a theme emerges, repeats, transforms, and intertwines across multiple voices. This structure reflects the very spirit of my painting and the deep emotion that Baroque music and art evoke in me.
I executed the work with free, expressive brushwork and, in part, directly with my hands, blending abstraction and figurative suggestion. Through this physical connection, my aim is to convey the intensity, flow, and energy of these artistic experiences.
Fuga is part of my Lumina series, a body of work that explores light as the origin of both form and atmosphere. In this piece, I seek to evoke the intensity of Baroque art.
