Climate change, a misnomer
for the wanton destruction of the planet & its resources. Caused by humans
encroaching onto nature & its other inhabitants. As more of earth’s
resources are consumed for human development, destruction & pollution
crowds out its other inhabitants and threatens their very existence. The seas
are over-fished to almost exhaustion and pollution kills the very source of our
consumption.
Animals of the land,
air and sea need the freedom to roam their natural habitat in order to feed,
breed or find a new home. We, as humans, have the responsibility to work
together to build & protect our common home on earth so that all can enjoy
the freedom to roam.
The artwork was created using a
traditional Japanese method of printing fish, called Gyotaku (魚拓, from gyo "fish" + taku
"stone impression" or “rubbing”). It is a practice which dates back
to the mid-1800s. This form of nature printing was used by fishermen to record
their catches, but has also become an art form of its own.
The artwork consists of 2
separate paintings (I & II) to be framed together as one. Freedom to roam I (unframed)
