"Falling Off the Edge" is busy with activity and movement. There are hints of delicate and soft colors underneath a heavy, turbulent field of deep blue. Color leaps up and falls down, breaking free and getting consumed. There is intentional reference to being washed over and brought down and the counterpoint of buoyancy and lift. I am interested in this duality and also how we react to it.
There are underlayers of forms and colors that are revealed throughout the painting. There is depth with surprising illumination. This work has texture and scratches made from below and above the surface layer. It begs for closer examination and understanding.
