The fall of Icarus is a very famous episode of classical Greek mythology. Generally the narrative focuses on the male characters in particular on the father Daedalus and the young son. I wanted to give more space to Icarus' mother, Naucrates, to her pain and the impossibility of saving him. In the work, a polyptych, I wanted to bring out, through simultaneous visions, the failed attempt of a young man who is already falling, now at the mercy of his destiny and the feelings of his parents. It is a metaphor of how many young people today “burn themselves” believing themselves invincible, leaving their mothers and fathers with unspeakable pain.
This work is mainly drawn with colored pencils on recycled cardboard and it’s made of three pieces.
