Women’s Education Matters was created as the central artwork for a fundraiser I organised to raise both money and awareness for several of my core areas of concern — especially the global struggle for women’s access to education. This work speaks to the universal right to learn — a right still denied to millions of women and girls worldwide. Through expressive, childlike imagery and symbolic figures gathered around a school, the piece celebrates education as both freedom and foundation. Yet beneath its joyful surface lies a deeper truth: in many regions, women face systemic barriers, cultural prohibitions, and political neglect that silence their potential. The painting becomes a protest and a hope — a reminder that education is not a privilege but a necessity for equality, progress, and peace. It honours the courage of those who fight for access and the resilience of those who learn despite restriction.
The palette is bright and celebratory, yet the drips and overlapping forms introduce tension, reflecting both optimism and struggle.
