E pur si muove!
In this luminous and vertiginous work, Pascale Ettlin offers an abstract vision of a carousel. The circular pattern of the canopy, bathed in a golden, almost solar light, evokes both the mechanics of pleasure and the unceasing rotation of a world in motion.
The title, borrowed from the famous phrase attributed to Galileo, adds an ironic and philosophical dimension to the scene. Yes, it turns — but where to? The carousel becomes a metaphor for a modern world spinning at full speed, reminiscent of Modern Times by Chaplin, in which humanity is caught in the very systems it has created, overwhelmed by its own momentum.
This painting is the first in a triptych, where joyful yet uncontrollable movement is explored through several variations. Together, these works pose a fundamental question: do we truly know where the world we set in motion is heading?
