Although I started this piece with no particular intention in mind, I wanted the colours and shape of the acrylic pour to be my only influence, as the paint dried I began to see the sea in it and my thoughts and feelings started to travel.
The journey started at home in Donegal, Ireland; a coastal county, we are surrounded by beautiful scenery and the sea plays a huge part in our lives but as grateful as I am for such splendour I am terrified of the ocean.
As I watched my grandson play in the tide afraid of the cold, the jellyfish and the waves yet still running, in not wanting to miss an opportunity to play. I thought how brave and determined he was. I pondered how our perspectives differed; where I saw fear first, my grandson saw fun first. I wondered how often we humans talk ourselves into or out of situations and what life events caused this reaction. What constitutes bravery or cowardice? Should we dive into it or not?
