This painting is part of the cycle Domácí potřeby / Needs of Home, in which food, drink, ornament and spiritual associations meet in a space where Asian and European everyday life intertwine in a repeated ritual of need.
A still life with a cheap meal, an ordinary container, beer, and the distant rhythm of ornaments creates a special tension between bodily satiety, home memory, and the need for aesthetic order. The ornament here does not fulfil a purely decorative function, it is a manifestation of the desire for repetition, rhythm and beautification of reality, which is in itself mundane, cheap and purposeful.
The title Tělo Boží/Body of Christ refers to the idea of sacred food, but transfers it to the absurd environment of contemporary everyday life. Food, drink, vessel and ornament do not combine to form a harmonious still life here; they create an image of tension between hunger, ritual, kitsch and the hidden need for excess.
