This painting is part of the cycle Dómácí potřeby / Needs of Home, which explores the hidden spiritual layers of Asian minorities living in Europe, where livelihood, family, faith and business meet in everyday life.
It focuses on the subtle presence of spirituality in the everyday space of small stores, where the spiritual and practical layers of life intertwine.
Here, the ritual altar is not separate, it exists directly among the displayed products, the light of the shop window and the rhythm of long working hours. Gifts, offerings and symbols create a quiet centre that retains its dignity and intimacy even in the midst of commerce. Physical food and spiritual nourishment are seen side by side as two forms of the same need: to maintain life, relationship and continuity.
The canvas doesn't depict the altar as an exotic object, but as a private point of presence, memory and faith. The viewer finds himself on the edge between the visible operation of the store and the hidden interior space of the people who inhabit it.
