Aged Traditions
Oil on panel
This painting is part of the Harold collection, a series of works created by the artist Eleonora Giurgevich and inspired by the characters of the novel of the same name, set in late-19th-century England.
A teapot and a cup, marked by time, rest on a worn-out side table partially enveloped by ivy, as if nature had slowly reclaimed what belongs to the past. These everyday objects, now worn out, become symbols of a tradition that settles and hardens, until it loses its original vitality.
In the novel, social and family conventions play a dominant and often suffocating role, conditioning the characters and limiting their ability to recognize the possibility of change and modernity. In this image, time does not flow but accumulates, transforming the scene into a silent reflection on the persistence of traditions and their slow obsolescence.
