#2 COUNTDOWN is the central work of the Countdown series, a triptych exploring the emotional states generated by the various forms of pressure and normalization that permeate contemporary society. Inspired by a personal experience of resistance, the artwork reflects the ways individuals strive to preserve their integrity when confronted with forces that seek to impose expectations, frameworks, or models of conformity.
Dominated by shades of blue evoking inner life, emotional space, and the depth of the self, the artwork marks an intensification of the conflict initiated in the first chapter of the series. The fractures spreading across its surface multiply and branch out, while an incandescent flow of red, orange, and fluorescent tones courses through them like a living force in motion. Resembling lava running through cracks, this vibrant material symbolizes the strength of resistance mobilized against constraint. More than a simple reaction, it becomes an act of self-assertion, a determination to remain true to oneself despite attempts at transformation or erasure.
The black and yellow adhesive tape continues its progression across the artwork. More present and more deeply rooted, it embodies the external pressures that seek to contain, direct, or control this vital energy. Some sections show signs of rupture and fragility, while others remain firmly in place. This coexistence reflects a struggle whose outcome remains uncertain. Neither force prevails; instead, both reach their maximum intensity.
As the second stage of the symbolic countdown that gives the series its name, #2 COUNTDOWN represents the climax of the struggle. The artwork captures the moment when resistance mobilizes all of its resources against a constraint that has become stronger and more pervasive. Through tension, opposition, and persistence, it questions the ability of individuals to preserve their deepest identity in the face of visible and invisible mechanisms that seek to standardize and reshape it.
Created with hand-tufted merino wool mounted on a painted MDF panel, the artwork combines fluorescent acrylic paint, ink, carded wool, and adhesive tape. At the intersection of textile art, sculptural relief, and contemporary mixed-media practices, #2 COUNTDOWN offers a reflection on inner resistance, self-affirmation, and the tensions that emerge when individuals refuse to yield to normalization.
