cucinaAlchimia develops objects and experiences interconnecting art, taste & function. At Vienna Design Week they launched a project marrying fashion & culinary, with a unique packaging for their signature kefir cocktail. This drink is defined by the process of fermentation, which is normally hidden in the dark of cellars. To change this, The Fermentation Jacket was created, a transparent jacket in which ingredients were embedded and fermented – puffing it up in the process. This brought the fermentation process to light. The jacket was worn at the event and served as the drink dispenser.
In the culinary world, fermentation is a trending process, celebrated for its transformative effects on ingredients, yielding products with complex flavors and health benefits. However, the intricate process behind these culinary delights often remains hidden, with only the final products taking the spotlight. cucinaAlchimia sought to challenge this norm by bringing the fermentation process into the limelight with The Fermentation Jacket, aiming to celebrate both the method of fermentation and its outcomes equally. Through this design, process and product were made to shine.
Every material used was chosen to boost the visibility of the fermentation process. The design utilizes transparent plastic that expands during fermentation, displaying the vibrant colors inside, and iron buckles for detail. Transparent plastic tubes and valves were used to bring the jacket into full function. Recycled plastic accents underscore cucinaAlchimia's dedication to sustainability.
By weaving the process of fermentation into the very fabric of The Fermentation Jacket, cucinaAlchimia elevates the jacket beyond conventional packaging. It becomes a living, adaptive artwork that matures and transforms over time. Crafted from recycled materials, this approach not only emphasizes sustainability but ensures the jacket's reusability. It cultivates a culture of environmental consciousness and responsibility, inviting individuals to reconsider their interaction with fashion and packaging as a meaningful, ongoing dialogue.
