About the work
Manipulating textile surfaces and placing them into new contexts by breaking the boundaries of traditional weaving form the basis for hand-woven unique pieces. Whether flat weaves, folded fabrics, or tubular weaving, they are always the starting point for new creations.
At the interface between art, design and hand weaving, with a focus on individual well-being, textiles are created to feel, see and smell them – textiles that we experience with all our senses. Modern aesthetics are combined with an atmospheric ambience and natural cosiness.
The techniques of double weave have always had great potential to develop three-dimensional objects that do not require any further sewing processes. In this way, stylish ready-to-use cushion covers for living and other interior spaces are created directly on the hand loom in the form of tubular and double fabrics. Weather in colour, material or size, each object is adjustable to customer needs. The personal well-being is additionally increased, and the senses beguiled by an aroma scent cushion filling of customer's choice. The essential oils of e.g. lavender, herbs, pine or eucalyptus from the aroma scent filling have their impact and ensure relaxing hours in one's own home or any other public place.
In a fast-moving time as well as times of great uncertainty, people yearn for places where they can feel secure and which are shaped according to their own needs. The ready-to-use 3D throw pillows fulfill perfectly these demands.
Through the modern approach to an old craft and the combination of different textiles techniques as well as use of natural dyes, an authentic and timeless design is created which is more than sustainable at the same time.
The presented project is offering a harmonious approach to designing individual living and interior spaces.The creative use of textiles, play of scent, and practical implementation through the double-weave technique make the design an enriching and appealing addition to the surrounding architecture and design landscape.
For the Arte Laguna Prize in the section Art Design, I’m applying with two projects. Both projects are part of the “Sensory textiles” concept. The “Sensory Textiles” – textiles that we experience with all our senses – is a series of ready-to-use 3D throw pillows and backlit hand-woven textiles that match perfectly in a modern interior and design landscape. At the same time, each project stands on its own and fulfils its own purpose.
