Light object N° 2 out of the series A JOURNEY BETWEEN REFLECTION AND RECEPTION
Interconnections of various fibres, weaves and colour create exciting surface effects and cosy ambiences. This is the starting point of the creative journey between art, design and hand weaving.
By manipulating textile surfaces and placing them into new contexts while breaking the boundaries of traditional weaving, hand-woven unique pieces are created. These experimental woven surfaces are the base for backlighted wall covering objects that unite impressive atmosphere with aesthetics, enrich our living spaces, calm our spirit and boost our souls. The behaviour and beauty of each fibre are consciously used as design element. The light component moves into the scene, emphasizing the beauty of the hand-woven textiles even more.
In a fast-moving time as well as times of great uncertainty, people yearn for places where they can feel secure and which are shaped according to their own needs. Another significant fact that these illuminated objects trail, is that light is of great importance for our body and mind. It stimulates people, relaxes them and has a positive effect on their well-being. Based between wallcovering and ambiental lighting, it’s an invitation to slow down, feel the time and space, reflect and receive.
TECHNIQUE
Through the modern approach to an old craft and the combination of different textile techniques, as well as use of natural dyes, an authentic and timeless design is created.
Floating threads and fringes in wool, cotton or linen give the hand-woven fabric a completely new look in the post-treatment. The felting of the woven fabric is always associated with a surprise effect, which is used as an artistic element. Natural yarns, right from the start included in my creations, obtained through colouring with spices, food leftovers and vegetable dyes (e.g. curcuma, avocado & onion skins, walnut, …) give a special touch and let the fabrics blaze in a new light.
The interplay of light and unique hand-woven textiles with exciting surface effects culminates in backlighted wall covering objects that offer impressive atmosphere and aesthetics, promoting well-being and meeting customer needs. Finished textile pieces are stretched on illuminated aluminium frames. To obtain additional atmosphere in the space, each lighting object can be dimmed individually.
