"Shaping Things" is an exploration that connects traditional material-based craftsmanship with the precision and innovation of algorithmic design. This project investigates the fluid and transformative properties of polyester resin, employing advanced computational tools to manipulate the material in ways that challenge conventional design practices. The core of the concept is the intersection of the natural and the artificial—how organic forms can be reinterpreted and reimagined through the lens of digital technology.
By using VEX algorithms within SideFX Houdini, the project explores the dynamic behavior of resin, from its fluid states to its final hardened forms. This process is not just about creating visually striking objects but also about understanding and documenting the material's response to various environmental factors, such as gravity and temperature. The project also reinterprets traditional Japanese joinery techniques in resin, blending the precision of handcraft with the flexibility of digital fabrication.
The result is a series of modular, organic, and minimalist structures that embody the tension between control and chaos, between tradition and innovation.
