Artist Roywang self-statement:
In 2010, by chance, I spotted Picasso!s light painting photographs in LIFE magazine online and fell
in love with light painting instantly. Spatial memory, muscle memory, imagination – all using the
night as your canvas and a light as your brush. In this unrestricted state, each stroke of light
becomes a free line for me to draw in the air. Every light painting is unique and cannot be copied,
through the interweaving trails of light, a unique picture is assembled. I started to explore the
combination of Chinese elements in 2012, and as the Chinese dragon shuttled through the city, I
tried to integrate more diverse traditional cultures into the art of light painting, such as Light
painting Mythical Creatures from the "Classic of Mountains and Seas", light painting in
Sanxingdui Museum, Dragon Totem, and deep exploration with dance artist Ms. Yang Liping in
Peacock dance combined with light painting art. The works all fully reflect the unique romance
belonging to the Chinese. The combination of realistic scenes with somewhat playful light
painting art brings about collision and communication. I hope that when people see my works,
they will feel happy, feel the hope that light brings, and feel positive and keep moving forward.
This is also the deepest apperception I have gained from the art of light painting after coming out
of a low ebb.
A light painting artist from China, showing art with culture in real life.
