Martina Tombesi (Tucumán, Argentina) is an Argentine-Italian visual artist based in Turin, Italy. She holds a BFA in Fine Arts, with a focus on painting, from the National University of Tucumán. In 2023, she relocated to Italy, where she currently develops her artistic practice.
Her painting practice focuses on the exploration of unoccupied spaces and how our perception of them shifts when they are empty. Her research centers on transit and transitional spaces, everyday environments characterized by movement and activity that we rarely pause to notice, precisely because of their ordinary nature. Yet, when deprived of human presence, these environments lose their original function, revealing a different dimension: spaces that suddenly feel suspended, unfamiliar, and subtly unsettling. Since 2025, she has been developing Liminalgia, a series of works that expands these investigations through notions of liminality and nostalgia.
