Stefanie Jadd Susnow is a glass artist, mainly using recycled glass to make unique sculptural pieces. She runs a teaching studio for ceramics and glass art and works as a teaching assistant at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel.
Born and raised in the United States, she only began her artistic practice after moving to Jerusalem as a mother of 4 and after a decade working in education. During her studies in glass design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (2022), she focused her practice in stained glass, developing a new technique of working 3 dimensionally with found/recycled glass objects. Each piece begins with a process of deconstructing, followed by a rebuilding that highlights the unique properties of the glass: shape, color, light and shadow. By using found objects, mainly bottles collected locally from homes, restaurants and recycling facilities, there is familiarity in each piece but also innovation, as form and function are completely redefined. Her latest collection focuses on olive oil and wine bottles, reflecting the land and culture in which she works.
Susnow's graduate project, Consider the Jar, was awarded The Andy 2.0 Prize for Excellence in Glass Design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Her works have been exhibited around Israel and will soon be exhibited as part of the Venice Glass Week 2024.
