Sonnenberg

Beate Sonnenberg is a London-based artist whose practice centres on the construction of physical environments recorded as photograph and video. Born in Germany, she studied photography at Bournemouth College of Art and Design before building an international commercial career working with clients including Vogue, De Beers, Armani and Space NK.

Her fine art practice operates at the intersection of physical construction and optical perception — building in order to see. Construction and camera are a single act. The lens does not document what has been made; it completes it.

Current bodies of work include UNFOLD, an ongoing series of video loops and prints investigating what becomes visible when physical construction and optical perception collapse into one another. Her work has been featured in Aesthetica and Glass Magazine and exhibited at Photo London and the Ferens Gallery.
